Course Adoption 21-22 School Year

The course adoption process for the 21-22 school year will take place through the Secondary Design Team meetings. The remaining meeting dates that will include this process are December 1st  and February 9th .  To have a course reviewed at the December 1st meeting please complete this form by November 12th  . Please reference the course catalog prior to submitting a course adoption request to ensure this course would be needed in the content area. For courses outside of these subject areas (CTE, ESE, AICE, IB, etc.) please reference the course catalog in myStudent to see what is currently adopted. The course is only adopted for use in brick and mortar schools if there is a Z suffix on the end of the course code number and it is listed as active in the system.  If you are unsure of how to access the course catalog reference these directions.

The school year that precedes an instructional materials adoption, when current course standards are under review, we will pause the adoption of new courses for that content area.  This school year we will not adopt new Social Studies courses for 22-23.  Please contact Tonia Shook with any questions you may have.

Feel free to submit exam orders (first-semester and full-year) now through November 15th.  After you submit your initial exam order, you’ll need to submit changes to your order any time you make an adjustment or update. Academic History Guidelines For Foreign Exchange Students

To provide clarification around the transcript process regarding foreign exchange students, we wanted to share the current procedures.

Out-of-country transcripts are not entered into the myStudent system unless the student has an interest in playing interscholastic sports.  In the event that the exchange student wishes to pursue a sport, the academic transcript must include grades earned from 8th grade through the most recently completed grade level.

Schools will transcribe the record and submit the application for approval to play with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA).  In addition to the translated academic record, the host family must complete all athletic paperwork required for FHSAA,  submitting the identified documents to the school.  Foreign exchange students should contact the school of enrollment for information regarding the required forms.

For additional questions and/or concerns, please feel free to contact Alexia Martinez, Senior Instructional Specialist for World Languages and Foreign Exchange Visitor Program, at ajmartin@pasco.k12.fl.us or by phone, at (813) 794-2319.

CPR Instructional Mandate Information

Thank you to schools for continuing to find new and creative ways to implement the new CPR instructional mandate for all 9th and 11th grade students. A CPR Canvas Module was added to the Mental Health Course (9th and 11th Grade Course only), at the end. This new module connects students to a free American Red Cross online course that takes around 45 minutes to complete. This course provides self-paced instruction of all required CPR and First Aid topics. The only part of the mandate it does not cover is the “hands on” portion that must be completed by students using a CPR dummy or some other type of practice rescue apparatus in the presence of health teacher, school nurse, medical professional or certified CPR instructor. If you need any additional guidance or help implementing this new mandate please contact Matt Wicks, Supervisor of Health & Physical Education at 42755 or mwicks@pasco.k12.fl.us

PMP Reporting Monthly Progress

Each month, we will continue to report progress to parents to let them know how their child is responding to Tier 3 interventions.  Teachers will want to update the indication as to whether each student is making (adequate, limited, yes, or no) progress in the SSS, at the same time as working on progress reports or report cards. This will be populated on the monthly progress letters that will go home on November 12th  with progress reports.

Here is a chart which indicates when the progress letters will be generated in the letter queue in myStudent and when they should be sent home.

Date letters will be generated in letter queue

Date schools send home progress letters

11/5 initial post of letters to review

11/11 final repost of letters

11/12 progress reports + progress letter

No progress letters will be distributed in December.

Please follow these steps to access the Academic Monitoring List (School)

  1. Open myStudent
  2. Click on Reports (left menu bar)
  3. Click on District Reports, then District Reports again
  4. Select the Academic Monitoring List Report to run for your school
    1. Under Select your criteria– you have options to choose from-select PMP Standards Not Met to view a report which shows every student with a PMP that should have an intervention plan.
    2. Active Academic Monitoring Plan during time period (shows all students with an intervention plan in ELA and/or Math).
    3. Last column shows errors (something missing)- Review for errors prior to printing monthly progress letters

You can find the directions for letter distribution on pages 4-5 of the  Academic Monitoring in myStudent.docx. Only administrators and office staff with DEO or School Update profiles will have access, one week prior to distribution of progress reports, to the Letter Queue area of myStudent located in the Student Menu.  This is the same process as quarter 1.

Please contact Courtney LoughJan Anderton, or Larry Porter if you have any questions.

Reading Endorsement Update

Here is the link to the most up to date staff members who have their reading endorsement or reading certified on their teaching certificate. If you have staff that are seeking their endorsement, here is the schedule for Pasco and a link to register with UF Literacy Matrix, who is still accepting applicants, the next groups will begin on December 1st.

New House Bill for Teachers in PDCP and Reading Endorsed Mentors

Below is the official language from House Bill 7011, Student Literacy, that will require Reading Endorsed mentors for PDCP teachers in the following certification areas:

Elementary Ed K-6

PreK-Primary (Age 3 – Grade 3)

Middle Grades English 5-9

English 6-12

ESOL K-12

Reading K-12

Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, for all such personnel who supervise or direct teacher preparation students during internships in kindergarten through grade 3 or who are enrolled in a teacher preparation program for a certificate area identified pursuant to s. 1012.585(3)(f), must have a certificate or be endorsement in reading.

What does this mean for us? PDCP teachers with the above certification areas will need a mentor who is Reading Endorsed starting next school year.

The next Clinical Educator will begin in January. Please see this flyer for dates, times, and recommendation form

Please send your recommendation forms to Charlotte Kralik to be register in myPGS.

NWEA Overview for ELA

This week we were excited to host some live sessions for ELA teachers and leaders so that they could take time looking and learning about the most high leverage reports for ELA and how to use the data to inform and support planning instruction and intervention. Please share the information and screencast for the content with teachers and leaders that were unable to attend. It will stay linked through the PD Hub to be accessed at any time. Please reach out to Tressa Lima or Cassie Hernandez with any questions.

English General Paper: Upfront Magazines

You will be receiving the Scholastic Upfront magazines at your school site in the coming week. Your shipment includes physical paper class sets of magazines. There are several months of titles to be on the lookout for. EGP teachers and Reading 3 have been using the digital access, so you may share with them that they can anticipate planning to include the current editions in paper form too.

Commissioner’s Academic Challenge

The Commissioner’s Academic Challenge (CAC) is a statewide high school tournament inaugurated in 1986. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 during the 2021-2022 school year are eligible to be on a district team with each district represented by one team consisting of a coach and six students. Districts are placed in three divisions based on overall student population. A maximum of six teams may compete in one competition round. Teams are asked questions from the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, the fine arts, world languages (French and Spanish), physical education, health and technology. The questions are written by educators from high schools throughout the state. This year’s CAC will take place in Spring 2022.

If your high school in interested forming a team to compete to be the Pasco County Schools representative at the 2022 CAC, please complete this form.

Please contact Tonia Shook with questions.
