OLL High School Communication

Early Release Session 1: Wednesday, 9/8

We are excited to come together for our first early release learning session of the school year. For the 21-22 school year we are housing all Early Release information on the PD Hub which is found in myPascoConnect.  Within the Early Release page, you will find a spreadsheet titled Early Release Admin Sheet. The first tab on this sheet will provide your school’s start time/wave for ERD. Once you know your wave, click on the tab for that wave and you will find all the information on where your staff will be for their early release. All staff will engage in virtual learning with like colleagues.  Your staff will receive a direct email from their facilitator on Friday, September 3rd with the zoom link and information. In the event they don’t get the email or aren’t sure where to go, please utilize this sheet to support them.

Upcoming K-12 Mathematics adoption process - Upcoming Action

The Office of Leading & Learning will be actively soliciting the engagement of all K-12 instructional staff who teach Mathematics to participate in the Mathematics Perception Survey. The data will help guide the upcoming math adoption.  This perspective will give us a better understanding of how our current mathematics instructional materials have impacted teachers’ classroom practices and overall attitudes toward mathematics instruction at your schools and across the district.

We will also be seeking interested participants to complete the Mathematics Adoption Narrowing Team application.  The narrowing team will engage in learning around criteria to identify the highest quality instructional materials available for mathematics which align with the Pasco County Schools vision for instructional excellence and our commitment to a world class education.  We encourage teachers, instructional coaches, school leaders to apply.

We will be sending a mass email through Communications to engage all stakeholders.  For additional information, please contact Tonia Shook or Francesca Howard.

Odyssey of the Mind Memberships

If you would like to field Odyssey of the Mind teams this year, please send the name and email of your school coordinator to Gulf Coast Regional Director, Freda Abercrombie (fabercro@pasco.k12.fl.us) NO LATER than September 17.  The National Odyssey of the Mind Association will be raising the national membership fee and only those who are registered before the deadline will get the old lower rate which the school district will pay this year. If you would like help in starting an OM membership or have any questions, please contact Freda.

Dual Enrollment Laboratory Science Courses

PHSC has recently approved an addendum to our articulation agreement which would allow our schools to offer a laboratory science course on-campus beginning in the spring 2022. The PHSC Faculty Credentials and Qualifications Manual is attached for your refence, in addition to a breakdown of lab course enrollment for students who took these courses at PHSC from this past spring. When reviewing the enrollment, please remember that typically when courses are offered at our high school we are able to reach more students. We know that your master schedules are close to complete for the second semester but district supports are possible when considering this opportunity. If you are interested in offering a lab course at your site, please email Kristin Ingold by Friday, September 10th, to coordinate time to discuss next steps.

Admin Moves:  3 Quick Tips to a Great Start with Your Instructional Coaches

    1. Set up an initial meeting to discuss your goals, common vision of coaching, and to set a regular meeting schedule.
    2. Review Coaching Expectations.  The most impactful instructional coaching is focused on face-time with teachers and teacher teams.  Prioritize instructional coaching around content and student outcomes.  Align coaching efforts to your school goals.
  • Clearly define coaching at your school.  Consider a communication plan for stakeholders to communicate your coaching definition, the way your coaches spend time, and what teachers and teams can expect from coaches.

Trailblazers Cohorts

We are hosting an eight-week professional learning series.  We kick off with a launch experience on September 7th for coaches and September 13th the coach and teacher team-up begins!  Over the series, teachers and coaches will attend 2-hour sessions of new learning, hosted at 2-week intervals to allow time for teachers to apply the new strategies and participate in cycles of coaching with their site-based coach.  We ran this series last year and brought it back due to popular demand.

If you have coaches and teachers interested in professional growth and practice, please share our flyer with all of the sign-up information.  Our space is limited so we are offering a Fall and Spring cohort.

New Teacher On-Boarding/Compassionate Classroom Make-up: Saturday, September 18th
Please share with new teachers that did not attend the kickoff on Monday, July 26th. Use this spreadsheet to see who attended from your school.
This is a highly suggested course for all new hires to Pasco whether they are coming in with experience or not. For the On-boarding session, we will review information about the Pasco Way of Work as well as our systems, platforms, evaluation systems, and orient all new hires to Pasco County Schools. In the afternoon, we will begin our journey with building a compassionate classroom.  We will engage in an activity to understand the six pillars of a developmental relationship and the importance of building trusting relationships with their students. We will emphasize that setting clear expectations, rules, and procedures is essential to maximize learning. All new teachers will begin to build out their classroom success plan for the year including these elements and much more.
All teachers that attend will receive a stipend pay for joining us on Saturday from 8:30am-3:30pm. This session will be via zoom. Information and zoom link will be sent to participants prior to this training.
