Secondary Grading Practices 2022-2023
Thank you so much for attending the Grading from the Inside Out workshop with your school teams. We hope that the learning helped your teams shift towards a standards-based grading mindset where ever you are on your journey. As we move one step forward on our district journey to standards-based grading, we will utilize the Secondary Grading Practices for 22-23 document that includes required learning, standardized gradebook set up, and gradebook code changes for ‘missing’ and ‘incomplete’. We feel this document supports the implementation of the workshop objectives and all of the great work and learning that is currently happening in schools around our district.
To help support this work, we are:
- Creating a professional learning video for pre-planning week to explain the practices, the why, and guide the work for quarter 1.
- Providing sessions during Together We Learn week to support teachers in shifting their grading mindset and practices.
- Creating a Grading Toolkit with resources, examples, and Frequently Asked Questions (published by 7/25)
To support implementation of these practices, we ask School Leaders to:
- Share this document with your staff.
- Highlight Together We Learn sessions for your staff.
- Acknowledge and share the why behind the standardized gradebook set up that will be pushed out from OTIS.
- Prioritize the provided district gradebook learning video during pre-planning week and provide time for Teacher Teams (PLCs) to determine quarter 1 gradebook benchmarks and required learning for quarter 1.
- Embed professional learning for your staff throughout the year to support and extend standards-based grading mindset and practices.
- Support early release day learning around required learning consensus on Teacher Teams (PLCs).
- Support the work through the School Leadership Team, School Intervention Teams, and PLCs.
Thank you for leading this very important work in your buildings!

Blended Learning Application 22-23
Did you know? As required under the Digital Learning Act, s. 1003.4282, a student entering grade 9 in the 2011-2012 school year and thereafter who seeks a high school diploma must take at least one online course. An online course is a formal education program involving student–teacher interaction in which a student learns mostly through online delivery of content and instruction with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace.
Teachers instructing high-school credit earning courses that are mostly through an online delivery of content and meet the application criteria can have their face-to-face courses tagged as a “blended course” making their course eligible to satisfy the online course requirement. Middle school teachers instructing high-school credit earning courses are also able to apply.
If you would like to apply for this designation for the 22-23 school year, the teacher must complete the blended learning application by July 11, 2022. Courses will be reviewed and schools will be notified of application approvals the week of July 14, 2022. Then, data entry operators would make the necessary revisions to the sections within the school’s master schedule set-up.
Leaders, please encourage teachers that may qualify to submit an application. PCSD will be approved district-wide and tagged as blended. Other courses are also under review for district-wide approval.
If you have any questions, please email Samantha Del Valle or Anthony Tretolo.
