Sons of American Revolution Award – Action Needed

The Sons of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award strives to recognize 5th grade students who clearly exhibit qualities of dependability, leadership, patriotism, and upright character in speech and habits. These qualities of citizenship are the same that helped build the United States of America and exemplify the ideals of our founding fathers. Each school will be receiving ten certificates, addressed to the principal. Per the request of our local chapter, they ask that each 5th grade teacher select one boy and one girl recipient from their class that exhibit these characteristics.

If you have any questions, please contact Tina Stavrou.

Medal of Honor National Convention Letter Writing Campaign – Action Needed

As shared in the March and April SMORE newsletter communications, the Medal of Honor National Convention will be hosted in Tampa next Fall and we would love each Medal of Honor recipient to be welcomed with letters written by our students.  Please find here directions for a letter writing campaign that your teachers received in March and April.  The original date that was shared to submit student letters to Tina Stavrou   was by May 1st 2019, but we understand that this activity may work better during the month of May with testing and activity schedules and would be able to accept packages through May 31st.  We would love to have every school represented in welcoming these honorable Veterans, and thank the schools who have already submitted their letters to us.

Summer Reading Camp-Who Do We Invite? – FYI

As you know, 3rd grade Summer Reading Camp allocations were based on the number of students in Emergency in SchoolPace. When inviting students to potentially participate in SRC, you will want to first invite all student in Emergency.  You can then consider inviting:

  • students that scored in the red on all 3 quarterly checks
  • students At-Risk in SchoolPace and in the red on at least two quarterly checks

You will not want to invite more than you have been initially allocated- remember, classes have a 1:15 teacher/student ratio.  It is also important to remember, final allocations will be based on the actual number of students that score a Level 1 on the FSA-ELA.  The letter will inform parents that if their child scores a Level 2, 3, 4, or 5, then they will no longer qualify for ESY/SRC.  It will be easier to uninvite students when they score a 2 or higher, then try to invite students once the summer has started.

Please contact Courtney Lough if you have any questions or want to talk through a scenario.
