Module Assessment and HMH Updates

Writing Tasks:

Thank you for using the HMH Into Reading resources with fidelity. We are pleased that our students are engaging in writing daily and teachers have enough writing data to address student needs and guide next steps in instruction. Given the vast amount of writing data available, we are recommending the Module Assessment Writing Prompt be optional and the End of Module Performance Task (or Module Wrap up topic in K-2) be completed and scored. This Performance Task aligns closely with the standards for writing, end of year expectations for FSA writing, and aligns to our common vision of instructional excellence in literacy. Additionally, this culminating task is the best application of the learning module.

Additional information regarding assessment modifications will be provided soon.

Assessment Windows:

The testing windows for the remaining Kindergarten and Grades 1-5 module assessments can be found here and will be reflected in the ELN.

We understand some schools need additional time adjusting their scope and sequence of instruction and are submitting requests for extensions. We will not be extending the Module 1 assessment window, but we will extend the Module 2 assessment window to September 29th. We continue to recommend not prioritizing assessments; instead focusing on instruction and building student knowledge. If you are uncertain about your current pace, please contact a member of the ELA team to support you in scope and sequence adjustments.

As a reminder, module assessments may be given in sections. For example, on Day 14 of the Writing Workshop, students respond to the Reading Performance Task; on Day 15, students take the reading section of the Module Assessment during the Foundational Skills and Comprehension/Vocabulary components of the Literacy Block; and on Day 15 of the Writing Workshop, students take the remaining section of the Module Assessment.

HMH Updates:

The student myBook are consumable books that include the texts and tasks students are using during instruction. Students should be writing in the myBook daily. In addition to the margins, allow students to record their thinking on the page and annotate the text. Please remind teachers not to tear out pages in the student myBook to send home. Students will revisit selected texts during Modules 11 and 12 genre studies and those texts will not be provided again.

DIBELS Data System (DDS) Information

The DIBELS Data System (DDS) is now setup and ready for teachers, administrators, and other instructional staff!

The DDS is where you will enter student DIBELS data and access student, class, and school-level reports.

Please review this important information to make sure you are successful in utilizing this system.

  1. Users, Classes, and Students have been loaded and are accurate as of 9/20/21. Student and staff changes will be updated frequently, but it is NOT updated instantly in the DIBELS Data System. In other words, if a student moves to your school tomorrow, it will take a bit for the DDS to update to reflect this new student.
  2. Admin, Teachers, and other staff need to activate their DIBELS accounts by visiting https://dibels.amplify.com/

Username and password Information are located in this folder

  1. A quick guide on how to enter in DIBELS benchmark data into the DDS is also in the above folder.
  2. You should see a DIBELS App pushed out to myPascoConnect dashboards very soon that links to the DIBELS Amplify website, however you will need to access the above folder for login credentials.
  3. If you have questions about log-in information, users, your class, or students, Please contact Larry Porter.
  4. Guidance for DIBELS reports and interpretation are coming soon!

Academic Tutoring

During our session with Academic Tutors on Monday, several asked for clarification around their role and wanted to ensure all stakeholders were on the same page. We have put together a chart showing the responsibilities of Academic Tutors and Classroom Teachers/PLCs, so there is clear communication.  We will also include this chart in the Teacher Newsletter this week.  Click here for that information.   Please make sure Academic Tutors are being used to their fullest potential, as many of the tutors hired, have a wealth of knowledge and experience.  Please take advantage of that for Tier 2 instruction and high dosage tutoring opportunities.

If you have new Academic Tutors, please share the Academic Tutoring SharePoint.  It includes recordings from ‘How Tutoring Works’ and content specific sessions for Math, ELA, and SEL from our first three sessions.

Please contact Courtney Lough clough@pasco.k12.fl.us (ELA), Jan Anderton janderto@pasco.k12.fl.us (Math), Lesley Wilson (SEL), or Kristin Ingold (Tutoring) if your tutors are requesting additional training.

HMH ELA Materials Update

A quick update on the additional ordering of the HMH ELA materials.  We have used your requests and current enrollment numbers to create templates that will be converted into requisitions in MUNIS.  Once those are available in MUNIS our bookkeeper will send an email for your school level bookkeeper as well as admin to go in and approve the workflow.  You will not need to place the individual orders.  We will place the orders for you and allocate the funds to your cost center.  We have been working daily with FSBD, so they are aware that this large order is coming their way.  Thank you all for your collaboration and patience during this process.

Pasco Science and Engineering Showcase

The Science Team is excited to announce the theme for the 2022 Pasco Science and Engineering Showcase: Science is Our Superpower. We introduced the theme and Showcase Launch week to School Coordinators on September 9th. The launch week, October 4-8th,  is an optional and exciting way to inspire students to think and dream big about the real-world problem they want to solve for this year’s Showcase. Scientists and engineers from different fields will be highlighted each day as students begin their work on their Showcase journey. A student-facing Showcase MyLeaning course will be published for teacher this week. The course includes teacher resources as well as a guided pathway to support our student scientists and engineers through the process. Digital and printable posters of the highlighted scientists are also provided for schools engaging in the Launch week themes. A quick video overview of the Showcase Course will be included in the October newsletter, as well as embedded in the teacher resources within the MyLearning course.

Progress Monitoring Plans Due Date 10/15

Now that the PMP statuses have been updated, teachers will need to develop an intervention plan in the SSS module under Academic Monitoring in myStudent.  This plan should reflect the Tier 3 interventions the student is receiving in ELA and/or Math. You will see that under Event, this is where the Progress Monitoring Plan is generated.  Meet with families to complete the PMP and Conference Form for all students with a PMP, prior to the end of Q1, October 15.
