Action Needed: Mid-Year Hire Mentors

As you hire new teachers for the second half of the year, please be sure to go to myPGS to pair them up with a mentor. Please use this instructional guide for assistance. Don’t forget to finalize the pairing and add the start date of the mentorship. This will ensure that the mentor will get paid for the time they have logged and mentored.

If you need to change a mentorship, please remove the original pairing. Use this quick guide on how to remove a pairing. Please note that this will not effect their pro-rated amount for the time they mentored. Then just simply add the new mentor with the instructions above.

Optional DIBELS Data System Intervention Group Monitoring – NEW FEATURE

We now have the capability to create flexible intervention groups in the DIBELS data system for progress monitoring!

This will allow you to:

  • Create groups for progress monitoring in the DIBELS Data System
  • Add/Remove students from groups for progress monitoring as needed
  • Review the progress monitoring data for the group only

If you would like this OPTIONAL feature for your school, please identify one person at your school that will serve as a DIBELS Data System Point of Contact and enter their information on this form: https://forms.office.com/r/uqGNf1M3g5. This person will be given a “how to” resource and additional permissions within the DIBELS Data System that will allow them to create intervention group classes, so they should be a current school-level user (e.g., admin, coaches, etc). Most classroom teachers have class-level access and should not be nominated.

HMH ELA Materials Update

Happy New Year!  Hope you all had a wonderful break.  The district has placed a third order with Florida School Book Depository.  This order will provide each school site with any teacher materials requested through the machform (for new and recently filled allocations) and additional student material for new students that enroll:

K-2 (student resource packages-my Books & Read and Respond Journals)

1st-3

2nd-3

3rd-3

4th-3

5th-3

In addition, schools that submitted machforms for additional student resources for enrollment growth prior to break and enrollment was verified, we submitted orders to cover that growth.  The purchase orders have been processed and sent to FSBD.  There is no action needed from the school.  The only action will be to count, inventory, and receive the shipment once it is received at the school site.  Any incomplete orders will need a discrepancy request if what is received does do not match the purchase order and packing slip.  Please do not sign for the shipment without confirming the materials were received in their entirety per the purchase order.  In the links below you will find purchase order number by school.  Your bookkeeper will be able to retrieve the order from MUNIS. The second link will outline what you are receiving by school for teacher and student.

HMH Into Reading PO by school.xlsx

HMH Order breakdown by School.xlsx

Attached you will find the component breakdown for teacher materials so that you can inventory your shipment to what is included in the package.

As of today, there are several grade levels on back order.  HMH is working with FSBD on supplying inventory and complete orders will begin shipping on Tuesday, January 11th.  As soon as shipment information is available, I will forward it to the individual schools so you can prepare to receive and inventory.

Please reach out to Fran Howard if you have any questions.  Thank you again for all you do 🙂

Zearn Support information

Research has shown that students who complete 3 Zearn lessons per week (outside of tier 1 instruction) show substantial growth in math proficiency. That is because Zearn is a scaffolded, supplemental program that students can use to help them outside of tier 1 direct instruction. Here’s how it works: When starting a new module, students can also start the same mission in Zearn. They will continue consecutive lessons while still receiving tier 1 direct instruction. Because it’s scaffolded, the students will be getting a double dose of learning, help at the time they need it, and the tower of power allows them to work on grade level problems with immediate feedback. When changing modules, they would change to the new mission to match the module that is being taught even if they didn’t complete the previous mission. Students can do Zearn at home, before school, when finishing early or anytime they have extra time in the classroom.

Keep in mind this work is not replacing Grade Level Tier 1 Instruction but used as a supplement outside of classroom instruction.

To help motivate students, here’s a collection of ideas ZEARN has seen used this year to build excitement and momentum around weekly lesson completion: Zearn Digital Lesson Incentive Ideas.

If you have any questions or need help getting started, please don’t hesitate to email Jan Anderton at janderto@pasco.k12.fl.us
